In its Private Equity Annual Review 2002 issue, the Private Equity International magazine published the article “Can GPs Set the Reporting Agenda?” featuring comments from Mr. Krassen Draganov, the CEO of Netage Solutions.
The article focused on the reasons for the increased attention given to reporting systems, the benefits of such systems, and the implications of different reporting models.
While selecting an online LP reporting system, one of the key things to consider is the issue of who owns and controls the financial data. This is one of the main pitfalls of a shared online reporting system and a risk that Netage’s CEO pointed out: “GPs can obsess about data – what it is, where it is, and who controls it. This is one reason why the idea of a shared online reporting system can seem daunting to a GP as they begin to worry about access, control and security.”
Netage has been a promoter of the dedicated model of LP reporting, characterized by GP control and ownership of data, back-to-back secure integration with any portfolio accounting database, and the level of sophistication and feature richness characteristic of an enterprise system.
